When the witch spells "Surrender Dorothy" the first time we see it she has only written surr. Then a second later shes done the message. It took her longer to write 1 letter then it did to finish the sentence.

Specific events in films often stretch or shrink time for dramatic effect or to move things along. What is more interesting about this is that original message was supposed to be "'Surrender Dorothy or Die, W.W.W.". They thought that was a bit overtly harsh for the movie, so they truncated that scene. The lack of "or die" leaves us with a mixed message... is she ordering the whole town to surrender Dorothy, or is she merely ordering Dorothy to surrender?
